September 22 - Julia McNeill Senior Center Grand Opening. September 29 - 3rd Annual Apple Harvest Festival. The Bellflower Chamber of Commerce, celebrating the city's 50th Anniversary, is sponsoring the city's third annual Apple Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Bellflower along Bellflower Boulevard. September 11 - Patriot Day Concert. The City of Cerritos will hold a patriotic concert and moment of silence to honor the victims and heroes involved in the terrorist attackes of September 11, 2001. The jazz concert with a patriotic flair will feature Gregg Young and the 2nd Street Band playing songs like America the Beautiful, God Bless America, and The Star Spangled Banner along with jazz classics. September 23 - 15th Annual Thai Cultural Day. The event will take place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Barnsdall Park, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. There will be Thai food vendors and demonstrations, Thai products such as antiques, silk and more, Thai music and dancing, a cultural parade and more. September 28, 29 & 30 - First Annual Swerve Festival. The Swerve Festival is a new annual film, art and music festival celebrating the creative culture of action sports with film and video screenings, live music performances, art exhibitions and workshops and more. The primary venue for the event will be Barnsdall Park, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, though some screenings and music performances will take place at other area venues. Music performances take place Saturday and Sunday. Saturday bands at Barnsdall Park include Illinois (Roots), Snowden (Indie Rock), Foreign Born (Garage Pop), and the Black Angels (Psych-Rock). There will also be a late night party on Saturday night at Echoplex featuring Bonde Do Role, Juiceboxxx, LA Riots, The Toxic Avenger and DJs Franki Chen and Paparazzi. September 8 - Pirate Festival at Shoreline Village. Shiver me timbers! A dozen swashbuckling pirates will be present to charm and delight young and old with their pirate antics. There will be sword fighting, dagger throwing, fire manipulation, a Captain Jack Sparrow look-a-like contest and a pirate band at or near the Off-Boardwalk stage for your entertainment pleasure. September 22 - 2007 Soundwalk in the East Village Arts District. Your chance to experience art in a truly unique way is coming to Downtown Long Beach. From 5 – 10 p.m. on Saturday evening, watch as the streets in the East Village Arts District are transformed by amazing sights and sounds. Presented by the Long Beach artist group FLOOD, this annual event will feature returning artists as well as new participants from the Southland and international arts scene. A one-day free event, SoundWalk creates a night–time aural/visual experience as participants enjoy a walking tour of the various sound installations located in indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the East Village Arts District. The exhibit will showcase artwork of a wide rage of visual and audio components; come ready to truly experience art sculptures, environments, installations and performances. LOS ANGELES - DOWNTOWN AND VICINITY

September 1 - Drum Downtown. A unique outdoor drumming experience. Hand drums, shakers, tambourines, and other percussion instruments will be provided - you're also welcome to bring your own. No prior drumming experience is necessary. The event is from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Music Center Plaza (Grand between First and Temple). September 8 - Free Concert for Metro/Metrolink Passengers. LA METRO and METROLINK present the progressive rock band CANON in an unprecedented environmental event at Los Angeles Union Station. The show will be open to people who show a valid Metro, Metrolink or bus pass. The concert will be held from 8 - 10 p.m. in the Old Ticket Room at Union Station. September 13 through 16 - 34th Annual Los Angeles Korean Festival. The theme for the 34th annual Los Angeles Korean Festival is "Bridging Cultural Harmony." The festival will be held from September 13 - 16 at Seoul International Park in Koreatown, 3250 San Marino Street (See festival website for map and directions). There will be stage/world culture performances, carnival games and attractions (fee), international merchandise and food vendors, a business expo and more. Admission and entertainment are free. September 14 - Latin American Heritage Celebration. The celebration will feature a wide array of musical genres that include salsa, Afro-Cuban, folklorico, mariachi, Peruvian, and Brazilian bossa nova. World City concerts are performances celebrating the diversity of cultural traditions in Los Angeles. Performances are at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the outdoor W.M. September 15 & 16 - Mexican Independence Day on Olvera Street. Celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the 15th and 16th with live music, dancing, entertainment, carnival rides and more. September 29 - Luckman Jazz Orchestra Concert. The Luckman Jazz Orchestra - A Tribute to Thad Jones. The Luckman Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Charles Owens, will present a special outdoor concert kickstarting the Luckman's 2007-08 performance season. Considered one of the greatest Hollywood film-music composers, Erich Wolfgang Korngold composed some of the earliest film music and won two film-scoring Oscars for Anthony Adverse (1936) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). September 7 marks the opening of a USC Library exhibition dedicated to Korngold. The 2007 Fiestas Patrias celebration will be held on Friday from 6 - 11 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. - midnight at the Neighborhood Center, 9255 Pioneer Boulevard. The 40th annual celebration will have a "Veracruzano Carnaval" theme. There will be live performances, traditional Mexican food for purchase and game booths. September 29 & 30 - St. Monica Church Fall Festival. The St. Monica's Catholic Church Fall Festival will be held on September 29 and 30 (hours TBA). There will be rides and games (fee) and admission and entertainment are free. Festival entertainment begins Saturday afternoon with Octoberfair veteran Jim Gibson and his rock band, followed by Lisa Haley and the Zydekats (Zydeco), Three Blind Mice (Electric Blues), the Mighty Cash Cats (Johnny Cash Tribute), Michelle Penn (Rock), and Hollywood U2 (U2 Tribute). Sunday entertainment includes a Gospel Brunch featuring soul-shaking gospel music, the first-ever "St. Monica Idol" competition from 1 - 4 p.m., Wartime Radio Revue (Swing), Josh Vietti (Electric Violin), La Salsa Caliente (Rumba) and St. Monica's choral all-star group featuring the Rainbow Riders.
