Each year www.dorothyswebsite.org is pleased to be able to welcome the works of special guest artists to the site. The guest artists are invited to display works which in some way either express or interpret the summer theme, which in 2008 is "METAMORPHOSES". The site welcomes Patricia Cahill of Irvine as the 2008 Guest Photographer. Her infrared photographs are exhibited below, and you can read more about her on the 2008 Website Special Guests page.

For those unfamiliar with infrared photography, an example of the transformation of a subject being photographed by capturing infrared (IR) light appears above. On the left, the scene appears as it would photographed in regular daylight. On the right, the scene is captured as an infrared photograph. The photographs below are all infrared photographs that have been processed as black and white prints. Mrs. Cahill's digital camera (Canon Rebel XT) has been specially modified to take only infrared photographs. The camera captures images in the near-infrared range, which is infrared light just beyond the range of human vision. The camera does not capture far infrared (heat) radiation. The photographs rely on subjects that reflect a good amount of near-IR light. This is particularly noticeable in sunlit foliage, which appears with a whitish tone. Some visible light is captured as well, so the end result is an image that is mostly IR with an additional visual light component.
